Crack Resistance and Durability of Ohio DOT Asphalt Mixtures Using I-FIT and IDEAL-CT, Phase 2
In 2016, a research project titled, "Crack Resistance and Durability of RAS Asphalt Mixtures" began to address the need for a better method of quantifying reclaimed asphalt shingles (RAS) durability performance prediction thru lab testing. The two methods that were presented as having the best potential were the Texas Overlay Test (TO) and the Illinois SCB I-FIT flexibility index (FI) test. After Phase 1, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) decided that the FI best fits ODOT's needs moving forward. However, IDEAL-CT subsequently emerged with similar comparison and is more user friendly. ODOT believes that IDEAL-CT will be a better fit for implementation in both mix design approval and quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) acceptance. This research will prove the suitability of each test and produce recommendations for specification limits and test standards.
