Implementation of Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures
Based on the concept of "what gets measured gets managed,” Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPMs) use a suite of performance measures, data collection and data analysis tools to support objectives and performance based approaches to traffic signal operations, maintenance, management and design. ATSPMs provide the data that the TxDOT needs to adopt an objectives-driven, performance-based approach to managing traffic signal operations. In this project, researcher team will conduct a review the state of practice related to the implementation and use of ATSPMs to enhance traffic signal performance. Researchers will then compare and contrast the use and implementation requirements of a minimum of three ATSPM software suites commonly available to the TxDOT. Based on this assessment, researchers will develop prototype data-analysis techniques and tools to assist TxDOT identify strategies and techniques for enhancing traffic signals. Researchers will use the lessons learned and results of the assessment to develop recommendations and guidelines for TxDOT Districts on deploying and using ATSPMs to assess and improve traffic signal performance and operations.
