SPR-4437: Effective Design and Operation of Pedestrian Crossings
The proposed study will identify the conditions when the risk of injury and fatality of pedestrians on road crossing is excessive. The proposed project will produce recommendations regarding improving pedestrians’ safety by: (1) proposing language for the Indiana Design Manual to help improve pedestrian safety, (2) writing practical guidelines for improving safety at existing crosswalks directed towards designers and traffic engineers, (3) developing manuals for conducting safety studies at pedestrian crosswalks that deliver input to improving safety at existing crosswalks.
