NCHRP Implementation Support Program. Implementation of Proposed AASHTO Standards for Asphalt Binders and Mixtures

A key activity of the FHWA Expert Task Groups (ETGs) for Asphalt Binders and Asphalt Mixtures and Construction was vetting of proposed new and revised AASHTO standard specifications, tests, and practices developed through NCHRP before their submission to the AASHTO Committee on Materials and Pavements (COMP) for review and potential adoption. In some cases, the ETGs might even conduct additional laboratory evaluation and refinement of proposed standards before they were sent to COMP. Overall, this process assisted COMP in the speedy adoption of worthwhile new or revised standards by assessing the supporting data, catching errors in methodology or text, and providing an independent third-party evaluation by practitioners from the DOTs and industry. This project will provide technical support to AASHTO COMP in its review of NCHRP products for possible adoption as full or provisional standards. The objective of this implementation activity is to facilitate actions needed to assure the timely adoption by the AASHTO Committee on Materials and Pavements of the proposed AASHTO standards produced in NCHRP Projects 09-52, 09-54, 09-56A, 09-59, 09-60, 09-61, and others later designated by NCHRP.
