SPR-4351: Minimizing Blast Furnace Slag (BFS) Leachate Through Improved Product Acceptance Criterion and Siting Considerations

This study will examine several product acceptance criteria and siting considerations that are necessary to minimize short- and longer term water quality problems. Specific research objectives are: (1) Review the impacts of the 2018 JTRP project proposed revised siting criteria for ACBFS use, (2) Evaluate the ability of the ITM 212 and a proposed column test to predict BFS leachate quality and leaching, and (3) Provide recommendations for improving BFS testing to better identify material quality.
