New Hydrologic Fixed Region Regression Equations for the MD Coastal Plains
The present (est. 2006) hydrologic equations are outdated due to (1) updates in the SSURGO (soil survey geographic database) implemented by National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS), and (2) 12 additional years of flow data. As a result, MDOT SHA hydrology models cannot be reliably calibrated, and may be producing incorrect design flows for bridge and culvert crossings in Maryland which potentially may result in either oversized or undersized structures. The purpose of this research is to update the hydrologic equations. In addition to updates in the SSURGO Soil Data Set, POLARIS Soil Data sets should be investigated to determine their accuracy and appropriateness for usage in the equations.
