Research on Dimensionless Unit Hydrograph and Time of Concentration for Maryland Watersheds
The overall goal of this research project is to provide guidance for selection of appropriate peak rate factor (PRF) and time of concentration (tc) for watershed modeling in the various provinces of Maryland. PRF and tc should be selected and/or calculated as functions of readily observable watershed characteristics. The currently used regression equation to calculate tc from watershed characteristics has a standard error of 30%; including additional data in the regression analysis should reduce that standard error. The research team will seek to provide methods to estimate the margin of error in model calculations of peak discharge, which can be combined with margin of error in regional regression equations for calibration of predictive models used for engineering design.
