SPR-4309: Pack Rust - Mitigation Strategy Effectiveness
The purpose of the proposed research is to examine pack rust effects on bridge structures in Indiana and to develop recommendations for particular strategies that can be used to prevent or mitigate pack rust in steel bridges. Various repair strategies will be examined to determine which appear to be the most effective in halting or delaying the development of further pack rust after it has been detected in a connection detail. The strength loss associated with pack rust development and damage will be examined. Lastly, recommendations and detailed guidelines on the most effective repair procedures will be formulated.
