Highway driving simulator vehicle and contingent screen replacement
This project concerns upgrading the vehicle for Highway Driving Simulator (HDS) in the Office of Safety R&D so the Federal Highway Administration can continue to be on the leading edge of research examining human factors issues that impact the safety and operations of the U.S. transportation system. The HDS vehicle upgrade will provide a modern and updated dashboard console that has more contemporary electronics. These features can better accommodate intelligent transportation system/Connected Vehicle-oriented experiments and significantly reduce the required engineering time to customize certain contemporary electronics. A modern digital dashboard with a navigation console and built in hands free controls is also necessary for studies that involve manipulating and measuring driver workload and driver distraction.
