High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST)
The intent of the High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) Task Order (DCMF Task B9) is to provide reliable Crash Modification Factors (CMFs) and Benefit-to-Cost (B/C) ratios for different types (in terms of applications to date) of HFSTs and to recommend materials and specifications (as appropriate) for applications and where and under what conditions to use them to effectively reduce roadway departure crashes. This study will attempt to quantify HFST performance over time in order to make recommendations to help ensure HFST best performance while also providing technical details and recommending tests and equipment for the evaluation of HFST surface characteristics and performance over time.
