Business Analytics in Government

The state of Iowa has a rich history in working with regent university researchers to address complex issues, from quantifying operational performance metrics and material qualities to input on draft policy. These actions provide state government with critical, often complex, solutions to support effective decision-making and more predictable outcomes. This proposal includes all the above with a particular focus on business analytics and predictive capabilities across Iowa's state government. This effort will provide a working plan to support the goals of effective governance with predictive outcomes and resiliency. The effort will provide an understanding of current uses and identify opportunities for business and predictive analytics within Iowa's state government. Tasks include: (1) In coordination with the state of Iowa, survey state practices outside of Iowa for business and predictive analytics. (2) In coordination with the state of Iowa, survey existing business and predictive analytic activities which are already supporting departments within Iowa state government. (3) In coordination with the state of Iowa, identify areas of greatest opportunity to benefit from business and predictive analytic capabilities, performance monitoring, and implementation.
