Road Safety Audits for Iowa
The major objective of this project is to continue the road safety audit program in Iowa as part of an overall program at the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to improve safety on the surface transportation system in the state. Safety audits are included in the Iowa Comprehensive Highway Safety Plan as a strategy for addressing safety concerns. A secondary objective would be to raise awareness of Iowa DOT field offices and local agencies of the value of multidisciplinary activities and proven methods for improving safety at high crash locations at a minimal cost. To accomplish the intended objectives, the following tasks will be undertaken. The lead for all activities will be taken by staff from the Institute for Transportation, InTrans, at Iowa State University.
