Ultra-High Performance Concrete in Ohio

Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is a relatively new material being implemented in the United States in a variety of applications for bridges. However, the usage of UHPC in Ohio has been limited to a single project in Fayette County with additional projects planned in the near future. In order to fully understand and reap the benefits that UHPC has to offer, it is imperative that the material is more fully understood by monitoring and measuring its performance. The primary goal of the project is to evaluate the usage of UHPC in Ohio. This will be done through three objectives. One objective will be to review the current usage and performance of UHPC in the Sollars Road adjacent box beam bridge in Licking County. The largest objective of the research will monitor and evaluate the UHPC closure pour for the LIC 310-0096 bridge since this is a new usage of UHPC. The final objective of the research is to provide review and advisement to Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) related to the GAL 160 UHPC deck panel connections.
