An Evaluation of Signalized Intersection Safety Using Centracs System
Intersection safety has long become a national concern. This research aims at exploring the possibility of using sec-by-sec traffic signal data provided by the Centracs system to evaluate intersection safety. Using the high resolution traffic and intersection data collected and archived by the Centracs, the task will develop analysis models to quantify the safety performance of signalized intersections, and estimate potential traffic conflicts and predict red-light violations. Five intersections in the City of Anaheim, California will be selected for testing. The models will be validated and evaluated using video data collected.
