SPR-4016: Assessment of Alternative Rumble Stripe Construction
Sinusoidal rumble strip milling techniques can provide a continuous recess for the pavement marking that would place it below the plow blade and is reported to provide effective lane departure warning, but with lower noise. This project will conduct an empirical evaluation of alternative widths, sinusoidal periods and milling depths to identify a set of construction specifications that can provide adequate lane departure warning with lower noise outside of the right-of-way.
