SPR-4009: Concrete Box Beam Risk Assessment & Mitigation
Adjacent prestressed box beam bridges account for a large portion of Indiana’s bridge population. The objective of this research is to develop recommendations for inspection, load-rating, and design of adjacent box beam bridges. This research program will propose revisions to Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT’s) Bridge Inspection Manual for assessing the condition ratings for adjacent box beam bridges and determining their load capacity. In addition, a “best-practices” document will be developed for use by engineers for the design and construction of the next generation of box beam bridges.
