Wayside Monitoring

The objectives of this project are as follows: Promote the implementation and use of advanced wayside detection technology, Determine the effectiveness of wayside technology to detect precursors to safety critical defects in railroad rolling stock; Identify optimal application of wayside technology to improve railroad operational safety and maintenance procedures; and Research, test and validate automated wheel defect technology capable of conducting more efficient wheel inspections in addition to assessing the feasibility of implementing such technology industry-wide.
