Subbase Requirements for Utilizing Unsealed Joints in PCCP
The study will determine, through a literature search, the practices of other states utilizing unsealed joints, the economics of an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) unsealed joint section, and the projected performance of an unsealed portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) utilizing the mechanistic empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG), falling weight deflectometers (FWD) testing and International Roughness Index (IRI) testing. The unsealed PCP would then be compared to the sealed joints INDOT uses presently.
