MRI 1 - Crash Modification Factors and Applications of Highway Safety Manual
The objectives and topics to be addressed include the following: 1) Determine appropriate forms of safety performance measures (SPF) regression equations; 2) Develop and implement strategies for replacement of crash rates and critical rate factors with SPF-derived data; 3) Investigate and apply before-and-after procedures recommended in the Highway Safety Manual (HSM); 4) Use residual plots to assess the confidence in and form of the SPFs at varying traffic volume; and 5) Coordinate with HSM research being performed by Southeastern Transportation Center (STC) universities to maximize regional approach to development of SPFs and Crash Modification Factors (CMFs).
