Remote Infrared Audible Signage (RIAS)
This cooperative agreement supports the effort of the Sound Transit to conduct a pilot project to purchase, install, and demonstrate Remote Infrared Audible Signage (RIAS) technology at various multimodal and regional transit stations, and transit vehicles in Seattle area. This project will show the benefits of RIAS technology by providing way-finding and direction information to persons with visual, cognitive, or learning disabilities. The RIAS transmitters are installed within a given environment on specific places, such as, airport transit stations, bus stations, ferry stations and rail platforms, information kiosks, fare vending machines, street intersections with pedestrian signals, and transit vehicles including buses and trains. The receivers, which pick up voice messages from the transmitters, are then used to guide target users through the environment. The project is currently in the process of procuring RIAS equipments.
