Data Collection and Database Development for Statistical Analysis of Work-zone Injury Accidents in California
At present there exist no comprehensive database on work zone accidents in California or nationwide that can provide insights into the size of the problem or that can be used to evaluate the cost effectiveness of countermeasures to improve work zone safety. There is limited data collected by AHMCT Research center as part of another project that has been made into a database that can be used but this database is very limited with data from only three districts and consists of data for only two years making statistical analysis difficult if not impractical. Since it was collected for a different purpose, it also does not identify all factors that may be relevant for assessment studies on safety and countermeasure effectiveness. It does however provide a basis for further development and improvement.
