Calibrated Video System for Traffic Speed and Vehicle Identification

As a complemented to an ongoing project to instrument a bridge for the measurement of loads and strains, calibrated cameras will give additional useful information. Calibrated in this sense means where necessary the data can be cast into a local coordinate system and obtain actual measurements of distances and speed from the imagery. The primary goal is to set up a trigger such that if a particular stress was exceeded, the camera will collect a time stamped image. This information can be used to determine actual vehicle size and/or if multiple vehicles were responsible for the observed stress.
