Clearance Measurement System
The objectives of this project are as follows : 1. To prove out a new method for measurement of clearances of objects (buildings, bridge rock cutting, tunnel walls, etc.) to the railway track. This new method will offer the following operational and labor saving advantages over existing (photographic) clearance measurement technique: a) operation in moderate ambient light; b) direct digital output-elimination of manual transcription of data; and c) real time confirmation of measurements being taken; and 2. To develop a fully engineered system embodying this new technique, and to apply this system to a customized hy-rail vehicle, capable of taking clearanance measurements across the C.N. system. Step 1 is completed. Step 2 will be completed in winter 92-93.
