      <description><![CDATA[The purpose of this task order is to provide research on the topic of Field Evaluation of Reflected Noise from a Single Noise Barrier.  The research objectives are as follows:  (1) determine the noise level magnitude, and in particular, the fractional octave-band frequency spectrum of the overall noise in the presence of a single reflective noise barrier for positions on the opposite side of the highway; (2) compare through use of equivalent site analysis and/or simultaneous measurements, the difference in overall noise level and frequency distribution (3) compare cases with both reflective barriers and to include data based on standard highway noise metrics that would contribute to an overall understanding of the perception of this reflected sound; (4) use the quantitative analyses to determine if the degree/magnitude and /or composition of the noise level actually changes; (5) help state departments of transportation (DOTs) gain a better understanding of when it may be necessary to use absorptive surfaces on noise barriers or other structures such as retaining walls; and (6) produce insight and data to help serve as a validation tool and be incorporated into future version of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model to enhance implementation of reflection calculation algorithms in the program.]]></description>

      <title>FHWA Traffic Noise Model: Version 3.0 Software Development</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The FHWA Traffic Noise Model (FHWA TNM) was originally released in 1998 and has undergone several upgrades. On May 2, 2005 the FHWA TNM, Version 2.5 became the required traffic noise prediction model to be used on Federal-aid highway projects. FHWA is currently funding the development of the FHWA TNM Version 3.0. The main objective of Version 3.0 is to contemporize the software, making sure that the FHWA TNM does not become obsolete as computers/operating systems advance. Contemporizing FHWA TNM will allow for more efficient upgrades and future maintenance. The FHWA is also funding a limited number of enhancements which will be included in Version 3.0. 
The objectives of the Federal Highway Administration Traffic Noise Model (FHWA TNM) Version 3.0 Software Development are to: (1) enhance the graphical user interface (GUI); (2) correct known software bugs; and (3) enhance functionality.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (TMN)  was developed by the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center) for the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA's) Office of Natural Environment to aid in compliance with environmental regulations. The Volpe Center will provide continuing support to this effort by: (1) Completing development and distribution of TMN Version 3.0; (2) Supporting special project analysis and other technical support; and (3) Project management.]]></description>
