      <title>Customization of a Mobile Field Data Collection Application and Linear Referencing System to Support Geospatial Data Collaboration </title>

      <description><![CDATA[Under a previous research project, Project # SPR-2253, “Development of the Digital Design Environment (DDE) ProjectWise™ – Phase 2,” the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) initiated and accomplished significant work towards customization of a web-based editing application to facilitate field data collection of geospatial data assets, specifically road network characteristics.  This application was known as the Mobile Asset Verification and Roadway Inventory Collection tool, otherwise known as “MAVRIC”.  Field data collection of roadway geometry and asset information, and more specifically, simultaneous multi-asset editing/collection (otherwise known as “parallel data collection”), is a critical component of timely management of the geospatially accurate road network and associated attribution (e.g., lanes, shoulders, curbs, intersections, intersection approaches, etc.).  This foundational data of the road network is the backbone upon which the CTDOT’s GIS is built, and a requirement under 23 CFR 924.17 for the Model Inventory Roadway Elements (MIRE) and All Roads Network of Linear Data (ARNOLD).  The initial project targeted field data collection utilization and was successful in meeting the project goals.  This next phase of the project looks to build upon the lessons learned during the first phase, incorporate additional customization to meet the needs to expanding CTDOT stakeholders, take advantage of additional technological advances CTDOT has made since the completion of the first project, and utilize the customized solution to help CTDOT personnel to enhance the overall quality and completeness of its critical roadway datasets, while providing metrics on time and resource savings that can be expected through implementation of a similar system.  For the different types of data collection, a fully configurable customized application is needed. ]]></description>

      <title>CTDOT Pavement Marking Inventory and Retro Reflectivity Compliance</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The primary objective of this project is to develop a comprehensive baseline dataset and methodology to create a Pavement Marking Index. This index will provide a systematic approach to inventory, assess, and manage the pavement markings on all state roads in Connecticut. It will enable the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) to ensure compliance with the Federal Register (87 FR 47921) and to efficiently plan and prioritize the maintenance and replacement of pavement markings. This will enhance road safety and optimize resource allocation. Additionally, this research may assist other states in developing similar programs.]]></description>

      <title>CCTRP 20-02: End Encasement for the Construction of Maintenance-Free Steel Bridges</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The study is intended to develop a novel and cost-effective approach toward the maintenance-free design of steel girder ends. In the past few years, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has adopted a progressive approach to addressing the pressing issues of maintaining and upgrading the state’s transportation infrastructure. Their success in devising effective creative solutions is evidenced by multiple nation-wide awards and recognitions, as well as the recent adoption of their novel girder end repair method as part of EDC-6 program. 
The aim of this project is to accelerate the implementation of a maintenance-free steel beam end detail utilizing Ultra High-Performnce (UHPC) encasement. The project entails the following: (1) conducting a refined life-cycle cost analysis for the detail compared to metalizing and galvanizing for a few real bridge construction projects; (2) confirming the fatigue category of the detail; (3) adapting guidelines from the repair to be applicable to new construction; and, (4) working with CTDOT to design the detail and facilitate its implementation on a pilot project. ]]></description>

      <title>SPR-2253: Development of the Digital Design Environment ProjectWise™ – Phase 2</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Phase 1 of this project resulted in the implementation of the cloud based ProjectWise Online from Bentley Systems Inc. that has delivered Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) a robust project and asset document management system capable of managing CTDOT’s Capital Road and Bridge Program. ProjectWise and associated Computer Aided Design (CAD) data developed in Phase 1 became the foundation for developing CTDOT’s geographic information system (GIS) for infrastructure management and development of Transportation Enterprise Data (TED). ProjectWise is anticipated to provide GIS functionality at CTDOT to the extent that project limits can be located geospatially on a "user friendly" state map interface. This is anticipated to allow managers and engineers to access project data "real-time" in the proper geospatial location, and be interoperable with future GIS applications at CTDOT. Phase 2 focuses on the development of Asset/Project Tracking and Location System (ATLAS) Geospatial and TED server infrastructure to begin showing project locations and other Department assets geospatially. ATLAS is a web interface, based on open source MapServer technology. The TED warehouse is intended to be a single source of CTDOT authoritative geospatial data. The objectives of this phase 2 of the project include expansion of TED to capture Maintenance Service Memo activities and Encroachment Permitting LRS network sections and geolocations; development of a security layer to allow wider functionality and access across CTDOT; customization of mobile data collection application, Mobile Asset Verification and Roadway Inventory Collection (MAVRIC), to meet the requirements of CTDOT for asset tracking; operation and maintenance of CTDOT’s Advanced Continuously Operating Reference Network (ACORN); and, web-based hosting.]]></description>
