Examine Issues with Prosecuting DUID Cases

The objective of this project is to examine and document challenges faced with the criminal justice system during the prosecution of drug-impaired driving offenses and detail potential solutions to those challenges. The project will first develop a plan detailing data collection and analysis for obtaining information from people involved in, knowledgeable about, or who have had experience with drug-impaired driving cases. The plan will include accessing archival documents such as arrest records and/or court records to examine what information is available to prosecutors, and importantly, what information is not available or is inadequate. The project will produce a report that synthesizes what is learned. The report will examine the range of important challenges faced by prosecutors in drug-impaired driving cases and will thoroughly discuss potential solutions. The resulting information will help those in the criminal justice system improve the ability to effectively prosecute drug-impaired driving cases.
