Ground Vibrations Emanating from Construction Equipment
Record Type: DOT
Information on ground vibrations emanating from different types of construction equipment utilized for road building (e.g. vibratory rollers, compactors, splitters, bulldozers, and other tracked vehicles, heavy trucks, etc.) is very limited. At present, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) Special Provisions addressing vibration control measures for construction activities adjacent to sensitive operations and/or structures are based on data derived from blasting and pile driving operations. Some of the present requirements for construction activities in urban areas may be inappropriate. The objectives of this research are to identify those types of equipment that would potentially cause the most damaging vibrations, determine the rate of dissipation with distance from the vibrations, and develop standards for monitoring ground vibrations from various construction activities.
