ARTICULATED BUSES
Record Type: RiP
The "Prevost Car" company (Prevost Buses) has developed a prototype for an articulated bus that must be tested in real operating conditions. The company "Les Enterprises Voyageurs" has made an agreement with Prevost Car to undertake this testing. The Quebec Ministry of Transportation is collaborating on an equal basis with Transport Canada in the context of the auxiliary Canada-Quebec agreement on transportation development in order to test and demonstrate the technical reliability of the bus and to demonstrate its viability by putting it into service on a regular commercial line for a period of two years. The project is comprised of two phases. The first phase consists of conducting endurance and technical tests on the prototype over a period of two months. The second involves the demonstration itself on a number of vehicles, 12 initially, then 20 if the results of the first stage are conclusive. On the whole, the results of the demonstration have turned out to be positive. The technical design is a success and customer volume has increased. However, the 48 seat articulated bus us not profitable on the Montreal-Quebec line in the usual operating conditions. A 64 or 68 seat configuration could guarantee profits.
